Saturday, May 16th, 2009    Subscribe To Our FeedIn the previous article Natural Ways To Quit Smoking methods to naturally quit smoking were discussed such as cold turkey, herbal remedies and hypnosis. These aren’t the only methods to quit smoking naturally. Quitting Smoking successfully requires putting an end to your bodies dependence on all the chemicals that have artificially been added to the tobacco as well as the nicotine. Methods such as nicotine patches and gum simply change the delivery method of how the body gets its nicotine fix. They may help get you off the cigarettes but you become dependent on the substitute instead whether that is nicotine patches or gum. So wouldn’t it make more sense to use a method that doesn’t deliver any of these chemicals at all? If you see the sense in that perhaps you would like to try one of these methods to naturally quit smoking.
Acupuncture
Acupuncture is a form of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) that uses needles inserted into meridian points in the body. From this TCM point of view your withdrawal symptoms are the results of impaired liver function caused by your tobacco addiction. Your liver has become artificially stimulated by the tobacco and the withdrawal of tobacco means that your liver has less energy. It is this drop in liver energy that causes your withdrawal symptoms.
Acupuncture stimulates the liver in order to make up for the lack of stimulation that has been caused by stopping smoking. This helps to ease the unpleasant symptoms of nicotine withdrawal and after a while the liver will resume normal function.
Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT)
EFT is similar to acupuncture but has the advantage of being able to be applied by the smoker to themselves. Instead of inserting needles in to meridian points you tap on them with your finger tips. Whilst doing this tapping you focus your attention on the anxiety associated with smoking withdrawal. During the tapping process you do a sequence of mental exercises that state your intent about how you wish to be free of the withdrawal symptoms. This helps greatly by reducing the stress placed upon the nervous system.
EFT can be learnt in as little a five minutes and can be performed anyplace and at anytime. Many practitioners the world over use EFT to help people suffering from anxiety, phobias and fears. It is EFT’s success with relieving anxiety which can help the quitting smoker get through the withdrawal symptoms and stay a non smoker.
