What’s the best way to quit smoking?

The answer is a mere word: terror.

It may sound crazy, and it may even sound stupid, but former smokers are in unison in saying that the best way to stop smoking is a powerful scare tactic. Unfortunately, such scare tactic may actually be real, and its threats may be more imminent than what we’d initially perceive.

A smoker can try a variety of technique to abandonsmoking. He may try the psychological approach of classical, or even operant, conditioning by providing a prize for himself after every triumph or punishing himself after every manifested inability. Sadly, the failings of this technique is that the reward master, or the punishment master as the case may be, is also the patient and the prizes or punishments will never be fairly implemented.

A smoker can try revolutionary techniques like laser acupuncture where high impact light of regulated frequencies are placed on these acupuncture holes to stimulate endorphins. Endorphins suppress the longing for a stick, putting a stop to the subject’s desire to light up a stick. But, no matter how innovative this technique may seem, it has yet to satisfy universally accepted medical standards. Its results are purely mythical, at best, without the verification from the medical community.

A smoker can also attempt traditional support like nicotine patches, which are said to put a stop to the body’s longing for nicotine too. Sadly, even years after their initial circulation to the market, nicotine patches have yet to attain recommendation from medical professionals.

What about a hypnotic approach, you might wonder? Hypnosis is known as a method to aid the patient quit smoking by tricking his subconscious to neglect about the body’s perceived need for such. But people think of this as merely as fictional as the movie Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind.

In the end, the best method to make a smoker cease smoking is through fear.

It may be a “too little, too late kind of fear, say, when the smoker starts to endure a heart attack or a stroke or is discovered that he has the starting symptoms of lung cancer. The numbers reveal that 67% of smokers who experience their initial brush with a fatal ailment brought about by their vile habit actually quit smoking. Almost 6 out of 7 of them quit for life.

It may also be an emotional fear, like the perceived horror of leaving behind one’s family, or failing to witness one’s children grow up to be wonderful adults. This is a classic case of loveconquering all - cigarettes included.

Seriously, no matter how long you think about this, it is the best way to quit smoking.Best of luck to you!
