When you first started to smoke, it is unlikely that you considered how hard it would be to quit.  As time moves on your system begins to hunger after the next cigarette to satisfy the craving.  If it doesn’t come soon enough, then both you, as well as those in your near facinity are likely to know all about it.  Your body has become dependent on nicotene, and the cravings that now result can only be quenched by the next cigarette.  Most who have attempted to finish with smoking have failed because the cravings overpower the desire to stop.

There is no amount of reasoning that will change your mind.  You know thedamaging effects that nicotine has on your system and on others around you. Will power alone is not enough to end your smoking habit.

So if you are serious about wanting to give up smoking, what can you do?
Some people get away with going cold turkey, however those who succeed are in the minority.  Generally speaking the majority will need additional help to succeed.

Your body is now subject to a nicotine addiction.  The brain must now be tricked into believing it is receiving an adequate dose of the drug, or the accompanied rewarding sensation with smoking a cigarette.

There are various types of nicotine replacement.  One example is the use of a nicotine patch which is worn on the body and gradually releases measured amounts of nicotine which is then absorbed through the skin surface.  These produce mixed results due to the fact that you are still adding poisonous nicotine to your system.

More modern products to come on the market include Chantix. These are products taken in a tablet form and success rates claim to be up to 37%.  The brain is tricked into believing that it is not receiving the normal satisfaction it usually gets from having a cigarette.  They simultaneously activate the pleasurable triggers created from nicotine.  Such products seem to work effectively, but they do have some rare side effects that you should be aware of.

A popular alternative method is to take a combination of natural vitamins and minerals.  Homeopathic solutions do not further introduce nicotine to your system, and eliminate cravings and withdrawal symptoms.  There appear to be no detrimental side effects with natural herbal products, or negative interactions with other drugs. Therefore they are a very safe, natural, and effective way for those who want to finish with smoking.

Prior to using any of the stop smoking products it is recommended to get professional advice.  You should also ensure that you have prepared yourself mentally and have a good support team to encourage you.
