The next few weeks and months will not be easy. Whether you have been smoking for many years or a relative newcomer, it will not be easy to break this very addictive habit. The good news is that there is loads of stop smoking help out there. Whilst it is ultimately your decision as to how to tackle the problem, you don’t have to do it alone. To succeed. you must really want to give up smoking, whichever route you choose.
Hypnosis is one of the easiest ways to stop smoking. You will still really want to give up in order to succeed, but it will take away a lot of the craving. This is not a cheap option, so if you have decided to stop smoking to save money, this may not be for you, although long term it will save you money.
Nicotine patches and gum can also help with easing the craving for cigarettes, although long term these can be almost as addictive as tobacco. They can also have unpleasant side effects such as mouth ulcers. Smoking whist also using patches or gum can cause a nicotine overload, which can make you ill.
For those trying to give up smoking for the first time, going cold turkey is by far the preferred option. However, if you fail, then this will put you off trying again to quit, and it is probably the most difficult route. But, persevere. However many times you have tried - and failed- to give up smoking, try again. This time may be the time that you finally succeed.
There is one essential ingredient for success, no matter which technique you choose to give up smoking. You must really want to stop smoking. Without that strong desire, you will not stop smoking.There are however, one or two things which you may find that will help.
Break the habit of smoking. If you always have a cigarette after a meal, then replace it with something else. For those of us with a weight problem, chocolates are not a good option. Perhaps a drink of water or tea or coffee might work for you - or even clearing the table and washing up! Use similar strategies with the first and last of the day habit. Try to avoid the problem by keeping busy with other activity during these danger times. A drink of cold water first thing in the morning and last thing at night is really god for you. It helps remove toxins from your body and helps your kidneys to function better.
Now that you have taken the first steps to quit smoking, keep working hard to make it stick. If you really want it enough’ you CAN do it!
