Having said that, quitting smoking can be easier than a lot of people claim. It does require some commitment, planning and application but it is definitely possible. And these days all the stop smoking aids make giving up cigarettes easier than it’s ever been.
I suspect that many of those who claim that it’s impossible are making up an excuse ahead of time so they don’t have to even try. The only sure fire way to fail at quitting smoking is to never try in the first place.
If you’re currently a smoker, know that it’s entirely possible to stop - people do it all the time. It’s likely that you started smoking years ago for reasons that no longer make any sense. As a more mature person you now realize that it’s one of the worst things you can do to yourself and that you need to quit. Here are some ways to make stopping.
One way is to create a powerful list of reasons why you want to stop. As the proverb goes “If you have a strong enough why, you can always find a how.” Write your reasons to quit down and review it frequently.

Something else that makes it easier is if you can create a smoke-free home. If their other smokers in your house, it would be best if you could get everyone to agree to quit at the same time. It might be difficult to do that, but it certainly will make stopping easier if you can.
An issue that will come up when you quit smoking is going through nicotine withdrawal. This isn’t as much of a problem as it used to be because we now have nicotine replacement therapy in the form of gums, patches, and so forth. The psychological challenge of quitting remains, but at least you don’t have to go through the physical symptoms of withdrawing from nicotine as you do that.
